Massage is
very effective at loosening tight muscles and improving joint mobility affected by
general
wear and tear. It's also a
great way to unwind and reduce stress caused by modern living.
Massage is also
affective in the rehabilitation process following injury or operations where
scar tissue affects muscle and the surrounding fascia, affecting muscle
flexibility and function.
Remedial / Holistic Massage
Massage is deceptively simple but powerful. It has been practised in one form or another for thousands of years. Today it is recognized increasingly as a powerful aid to the body's own healing mechanisms, promoting health and well-being. Massage has evolved from a combination of eastern and western
traditions. Massage is a natural way of maintaining the vital human connection of touch. It also has many health benefits, a major application being in relaxing & relieving stress. In addition it is a powerful healing tool that enhances physical and emotional health, as it improves the circulation of nutrients to the body and encourages the body to heal itself. With this approach the whole person is treated, rather than the symptoms.
Sports Massage
Sports massage as its name suggests is predominately used either before or after a sports event, but it can be very effectively used to loosen tight and problem areas affected by general wear and tear of every day life or scar tissue. It is in many ways very much like remedial massage as many of the movements are the same or very similar. Differences lie in the pressure and release work that is carried out during treatment. Sports massage uses a number of tests to asses pain free range of movement with a combination of massage and exercises to strengthen and release soft tissue (muscles and tendons) and to increase range of movement in joints. Compression techniques to spread the muscle fibre aiding increased circulation. Trigger point therapy and cross-fibre fictions are also used to release tight muscles.
